THE MINISTER: Hon. Patrick Sendolo
Honorable Patrick Sendolo was appointed Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy in February 2012 by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and is the youngest person to ever hold this portfolio.
Hon. Sendolo, as Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy, is charged with the responsibility of administering critical sectors which are at the heart of the country’s economy and prospects for economic recovery and growth. Minister Sendolo also oversees the management of the nation’s natural and mineral resources including oil and gas, of which there has recently been a significant discovery in Liberian territorial waters; and energy, which is currently the country’s top priority.
With strong credentials as a reformer and an innovator Hon. Sendolo has initiated, driven supported significant reforms across all sectors within the Ministry’s purview. Under his leadership, the Ministry has developed and is aggressively driving a 20 year plan to restore and expand the country’s electricity infrastructure and facilitate ready access to electricity services. Min. Sendolo also chairs the Dedicated Funds Committee (DFC), which manages funds provided by mining companies for social development, and he also serves as a member of the board of directors of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and Forestry Development Authority (FDA).
Immediately before his appointment as Minister, Hon. Sendolo served as head of the Program Delivery Unit in the office of the President and Senior Aide to Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Prior to that, he worked in the Office of the President as Executive Director of the Port Reform Secretariat.
Before coming to Government in 2008, Min. Sendolo worked as an attorney at Gilligan, King, Gooding & Gifford,USA, which practiced transactional matters in the areas of Property, Land Use, Corporate , Commercial , Contract, Government Administrative, Mortgages and Secured Transactions Law. He was also the founder and CEO of Ethnic Media Inc, a media firm catering to African and Caribbean audiences; and worked at Alcoa Wireless as Collocations Manager, responsible for legal and regulatory compliance aspects of wireless infrastructure construction.
Hon. Sendolo holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science, Advanced Honors Program from Georgia State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.), Honors from University of Georgia. He is admitted to practice law in the states of Georgia and Florida as well as the Republic of Liberia.
